Our Purpose Explained

BEA is dedicated to promoting excellence and sustainable improvement. BEA supports businesses, government bodies and the community services sector to embed proven international excellence concepts into their organisations. We believe that by using excellence concepts, organisations will increase their competitiveness and contribute to Australia's innovation and productivity.

Our Board
The BEA Board consists of respected business leaders from around Australia with a passion for the organisation's purpose.

The heart of our organisation, Evaluators are our panel of experts who help further our purpose and assess Award applicants.

1987-1992

Australian Quality Criteria (1987) Instigated by the Federal Government and supported by corporate Australia, the Criteria are developed by the Total Quality Management Institute.
Australian Quality Awards (1988) The Awards are launched to represent the pinnacle of organisational performance in Australia. There are no winners in this first year of the Awards.

2002-2012

SAI Global (2002) SAI takes over the custodianship of the Awards, the management of the Framework copyright and the rights to the associated learnng programs.
Systems Excellence Awards (2007) A set of Awards based on international management systems are introduced as part of the Awards family to further integrate Quality and Excellence.

1992-2002

Australian Quality Council (1992) The AQC is established by merging various quality organisations in Australia and is formally desgnated by the Federal Government as Australia's custodian of Quality Excellence.
Australian Business Excellence Framework (1996) The Australian National Excellence Model is developed providing an integrated leadership and management Framework.

2012-Today

The Foundation (2013) The Australian Organisational Excellence Foundation is established to take over the Awards and the Australian stewardship of the national Excellence program.
Business Excellence Australia (2017) The organisation is renamed to Business Excellence Australia to better reflect its pre-eminent role in promoting the use of Excellence models a s means of enabling innovation and productivity.

How Does BEA Help?

In fulfilling our purpose, BEA provides individuals and organisations with member services that support Business Excellence. We also manage the Australian Business Excellence Awards that recognise organisations that focus on sustainable performance.
